Since the late 1960s, the British performance artists and photographers known as Gilbert and George have challenged many traditional ideas about art. During the 1980s they began creating gridded collages of hand-coloured photographs such as the one shown here. Created in 1985, the work is in the Tate Gallery in London.Encarta Encyclopedia
